In October 2022, Derrymour M Patrick Snr, the founder of Trekkers Adventures Jamaica Limited, initiated Pink Trek "Papine to Cinchona Gardens Trek and Camping Edition" and in 2023 he along with his team curated the Pink Trek "Sports Walking Challenge" with a heartfelt mission: to raise awareness about breast cancer and provide vital support to survivors. The genesis of Pink Trek was deeply personal for Derrymour, as it was inspired by the memory of his mother, Patresha Morgan-Copeland, who tragically lost her battle with stage four breast cancer in August 28, 2020.
Patresha was not only Derrymour's mother but also his guiding light, instilling in him both entrepreneurial skills and a profound commitment to help others. Her passing deeply impacted Derrymour, motivating him to launch Pink Trek as a tribute to her legacy and a beacon of hope for those affected by breast cancer.
The primary objectives of Pink Trek are two-fold:
To educate the public about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, urging both women and men to undergo regular screenings for early detection.
To offer support to breast cancer survivors, particularly those who may face financial barriers to accessing necessary treatments and care.
Through organised treks and community events, Pink Trek engages participants in physical challenges that mirror the resilience required to confront breast cancer. These events not only raise funds but also foster a sense of solidarity among participants and survivors alike. Derrymour Patrick's vision for Pink Trek extends beyond awareness; it embodies a commitment to proactive health advocacy and compassionate support for those in need.
As Pink Trek continues to grow, it serves as a poignant reminder of the power of personal stories to ignite collective action. Derrymour's dedication to honouring his mother's memory through tangible, life-changing initiatives underscores the profound impact of grassroots efforts in tackling health challenges and fostering community resilience.
